Olympic medalists close curtain with figure skating gala

Feb 25, 2018

GANGNEUNG, South Korea — Alina Zagitova and Evgenia Medvedeva gave figure skating fans one more show in South Korea. Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir gave them one more on Olympic ice. The Russian teenagers, who dueled so memorably in the women's event during the Pyeongchang Games, and the Canadian ice dance couple that became figure skating's most decorated Olympians highlighted the traditional curtain-closing exhibition gala on Sunday. After years spent grinding toward competition, the gala is an opportunity for skaters to finally let down their hair, have a little fun and do what they enjoy most: entertain. So you had...

Feb 25, 2018

NEW DELHI — Sridevi, Bollywood's leading lady of the 1980s and '90s who redefined stardom for actresses in India, has died at age 54. The actress was described as the first female superstar in India's male-dominated film industry. She used one name onscreen, like many leading ladies of her generation, and was known for her comic timing and her dancing skills, a great asset in the song-and-dance melodramas that are a staple of mainstream Indian cinema. Sridevi died Saturday in Dubai due to cardiac arrest, her brother-in-law Sanjay Kapoor confirmed to Indian Express online. She had been in Dubai to...

Column: Predicting the future for these Olympians

Feb 25, 2018

PYEONGCHANG, South Korea — They've had their moment on prime-time TV, the skiers and skaters who dazzled or flopped in the Winter Olympics. But fame can be fleeting, and a lot of Olympians are quickly forgotten as we concentrate on other sports in the four years between games. With that in mind, let's take a bit of a fanciful look at where some of these Olympic stars may be 10 years from now: ALEXANDER KRUSHELNITSKY — The Russian not only became the first curler to test positive for performance enhancing drugs , but jeopardized his country's chances of being reinstated...
