Ita J. Howe announced that she will be exhibiting her Chinese Porcelain at the 55th Annual Delaware Antiques show, Nov 9-11, 2018

Winterthur Museum, Garden and Library hosts this annual event and says “Sixty of the country’s most distinguished dealers present the finest offerings of American antiques and decorative arts, including furniture, paintings, rugs, ceramics, silver, jewelry, and more. In addition to exquisite antiques shopping, don’t miss the keynote lecture with Charlotte Moss, New York School of Interior Design’s Centennial Medal honoree, one of Elle Décor’s Grand Masters of top designers, and honorary chair of the Delaware Antiques Show, as well as weekend lectures with young scholars” Source: www.winterthur.org

For over 30 years Ita J. Howe has helped build collections of early Chinese porcelain, emphasizing the Kangxi period (1662-1722} especially blue and white and the Wan Li period (1573-1619). Several pieces have found a home in museums.

“Porcelain slowly evolved in China and was finally achieved (depending on the definition used) at some point about 2,000 to 1,200 years ago, then slowly spread to other East Asian countries, and finally Europe and the rest of the world. Its manufacturing process is more demanding than that for earthenware and stoneware, the two other main types of pottery, and it has usually been regarded as the most prestigious type of pottery for its delicacy, strength, and its white colour. It combines well with both glazes and paint, and can be modeled very well, allowing a huge range of decorative treatments in tablewares, vessels and figurines.

An expanded inventory of the home gallery shows many display ideas. A nice collection of Kangxi silver mounted pieces, and several Kangxi mark and period pieces are available.

Having exhibited at major antique shows, such as Boston, Washington, Houston, and the New York Ceramics Fair, she now welcomes collectors to her gallery in Bethlehem, Pa. and at the prestigious Delaware Antiques Show.”

1st of 5 women to testify at ex-NFL player's rape trial

May 21, 2019

VISTA, California — Prosecutors plan to call the first of five women to testify Tuesday at the rape trial of former NFL player Kellen Winslow Jr., whose accusers include a 54-year-old who got a ride from him hitchhiking and a 59-year-old who was homeless when they met. Meanwhile defense lawyers argued the sex was consensual and asked jurors not to judge the married father for his "cheating ways." The son of a Hall of Famer did not show any emotion during opening statements Monday at his trial in Southern California. His father, a former star with the San Diego Chargers,...

In Cannes, Terrence Malick uncovers 'A Hidden Life'

May 21, 2019

CANNES, France — "Where's Terrence Malick?" It's a familiar question for the famously press-shy filmmaker that was, predictably, hollered again Monday at the Cannes Film Festival. Malick, whose "Tree of Life" won the Palme d'Or in 2011, returned to the French festival with a movie whose title could double for a description of the seldom-seen director himself: "A Hidden Life." The film, based on the true story of an Austrian conscientious objector to Adolf Hitler's army in World War II, premiered Sunday night in Cannes where Malick was, in fact, in attendance. Though he eluded the festival's red carpet photographers,...

'John Wick 3' dethrones 'Avengers: Endgame' with $57 million

May 21, 2019

LOS ANGELES — The box office has a new king and his name is John Wick. The third installment of the hyper violent Keanu Reeves franchise has taken the top spot at the North American box office and ended the three-week reign of "Avengers: Endgame." Studios on Sunday say "John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum" has grossed an estimated $57 million in its opening weekend. "Avengers: Endgame" slid to second place in its fourth weekend with $29.4 million. Domestically, it's now second only to "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." "Pokémon Detective Pikachu" placed third with $24.8 million and "A Dog's...

On two wheels, 'The Climb' rides through Cannes as a hit

May 21, 2019

CANNES, France — One of the breakouts at the Cannes Film Festival is a comedy about a male friendship that developed over many years and hundreds of miles on their bikes. Michael Angelo Covino's "The Climb" has been one of the most acclaimed American films in Cannes, even though it's just Covino's first feature. With fluid long takes, it captures comic moments in a lifelong friendship. It begins with a bike ride in France in which one rider, mid-hill, tells the other that he's slept with his fiancee. Covino and his co-star Kyle Marvin shot their opening scene in France...

Actor-comedian Sammy Shore, father of Pauly, dies at 92

May 21, 2019

LAS VEGAS — Sammy Shore, an actor and standup comedian who co-founded the Comedy Store, died Saturday. He was 92. Through a spokeswoman, Shore's family said he died at his Las Vegas home surrounded by family. He was the father of actor-comedian Pauly Shore. Shore's nearly seven-decade career stretched from the "Borscht Belt" summer resorts of New York's Catskill Mountains to Las Vegas to the studios of Hollywood.
