St. Louis, MO (February, 2018) – Mackler Associates proudly announces that Jason S. Marks is its new president, having previously served as Director of Operations and Vice-President/CFO. Mr. Marks has been with Mackler Associates for 18 years.

A lifelong resident of St. Louis, Mr. Marks demonstrated a gift for teaching in elementary school when teachers asked him to help tutor classmates in a variety of subjects. He excelled academically, receiving a National Merit scholarship in high school – a foreshadowing of his future with standardized test preparation. He attended the Honors College at the University of Missouri-Columbia, graduating magna cum laude with majors in political science, economics and sociology. He earned his law degree from Washington University, where he was a Scholar in Law recipient. He practiced law full time, both in private practice and as an appellate public defender, for eight years before joining Mackler Associates. An accomplished writer, Mr. Marks has published numerous law review articles, one of which was cited in a brief in a major civil rights case before the United States Supreme Court.

“I have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and an equal passion to help others discover their own inner academic mastery. I choose to tutor and mentor students of all ages because I enjoy the challenge of turning frustration into triumph, self-doubt into self-confidence, and giving young minds a set of skills and inner belief that begins a path of lifetime success.” -Jason Marks, President.

Mackler Associates has been providing students from grade school to grad school expert tutoring, test preparation and mentoring services for over 35 years, and Mr. Marks looks forward to continuing and expanding these program offerings. He notes that what makes Mackler unique is its individualized, customized client-centered approach. “We begin with a needs and goals assessment in an engaging initial meeting, craft a specific plan forward, and get to work,” with Mr. Marks taking a holistic approach that finds him alternately working on subject matter tutoring, study and organizational skills, mastery of standardized testing, college and career path analysis and more. “Students tell me I make the material relatable and accessible. They also appreciate having one person to assist with so many different academic issues. We develop a strong rapport and trust that reinforces the growing self-confidence students display. Parents focus not only on the tangible progress they see their children make, but also the personal development – happier, more independent and capable young adults.”

Mr. Marks wants every client to succeed and surpass their initial expectations. “Our clients really ‘get’ what we do and why we are a great investment. They see the dividends – not just in the higher grades and test scores and self-confidence, but also the big scholarships and expanded college opportunities.”

The Mackler slogan – Moving Minds Forward – really reflects the mission of the company and its commitment to academic improvement. “Clients come back years later and tell us how a skill or strategy we taught just helped them close a business deal or solve a case. Knowledge is a gift that keeps on giving, and we feel humbled that we have had that kind of long-term positive impact on people’s lives.”

Mr. Marks intends to keep Mackler Associates moving forward for years to come.

Paul Walker's brothers open to 'Fast' franchise return

Aug 16, 2018

LOS ANGELES — Nearly five years after Paul Walker's death, his brothers say they're open to playing his character again in the "Fast and Furious" franchise. Producers asked Caleb and Cody Walker to fill in for their brother and help complete "Furious 7" after he died in a fiery off-set car crash in November 2013. His face was digitally superimposed onto his brothers' performances for scenes that Walker had not yet shot and in a modified ending in which his character Brian O'Conner drives off into the sunset. The character remains alive in the fictional "Fast" universe and is mentioned...

Review: A low-key rom-com for Gen-X in 'Juliet, Naked'

Aug 16, 2018

"Juliet, Naked " is a charming and smart little film about early middle age, second chances, regrets and the intoxicating freedom of written correspondence that's nearly impossible to explain without either spoiling something or being willfully misleading. That's actually one of its attributes: Everything only makes sense in context of everything else. "Juliet, Naked" has a plot that not only builds but that keeps getting more interesting and more rewarding, which is a good thing because to hear this film described is a tedious and confusing exercise. Woman starts romance with elusive indie rocker who is also boyfriend's obsession? What?...

Republicans blast Pearl Jam poster of burning White House

Aug 16, 2018

HELENA, Mont. — Republicans on Wednesday condemned a poster by Pearl Jam that shows the White House in flames and a bald eagle pecking at a skeleton they say is meant to depict President Donald Trump. The National Republican Senate Committee compared it to the now-infamous photo of comedian Kathy Griffin holding a fake decapitated Trump head. The rock group's Twitter account says the official poster from Monday's concert in Missoula, Montana, is a collaboration between bassist Jeff Ament and Bobby Brown, an artist also known as Bobby Draws Skulls. The "Rock2Vote" concert aimed to encourage young people to vote...

The Latest: Pearl Jam unapologetic for White House poster

Aug 16, 2018

HELENA, Mont. — The Latest on a Pearl Jam concert poster that shows the White House in flames (all times local): 3:40 p.m. Pearl Jam's bassist is unapologetic for a concert poster that has Republicans crying foul. Jeff Ament said in a statement Wednesday that he was the "sole conceptualist" for the poster depicting a burning White House and what appears to be President Donald Trump's skeleton. Ament says the role of an artist is to make people think and feel, and the current administration has people thinking and feeling. He says he welcomes all interpretations and discourse and ends...

New McCartney love song takes direct, 'raunchy' approach

Aug 16, 2018

NEW YORK — The man who co-wrote "I Want to Hold Your Hand" more than a half century ago is speaking more directly these days. Sir Paul McCartney released a new single on Wednesday called "Fuh You," where the key line — "I want to fuh you" — contains a fudged version of a common obscenity. The 76-year-old former Beatle described it in a news release as "sort of a love song, but a raunchy love song." The song has been made available on digital and streaming platforms, so radio airplay doesn't appear to be an issue. The song will...
