Dallas, United States - October 12, 2017 /MarketersMedia/ —

"UK Supermalls 2017 - 2022", report offers comprehensive insight and analysis of the channel, including forecasts to 2022, the major players, the key trends and consumer attitudes.

As consumers have little interest in visiting lacklustre town centres, the overall proposition of supermalls - the mix of retail, food service and leisure options - makes them a much more attractive destination for both shopping and socialising. Consequently, the UK supermalls market is forecast to grow by 7.2% over the next five years.

Supermalls continue to develop their proposition, including a more comprehensive leisure offer to appeal to a wider audience and meet consumer demand and expectations. Many of these supermalls have leisure-led extensions in development or in the pipeline e.g. intu Lakeside, which is enhancing its proposition with a 175,000 sq ft leisure extension anchored by a Nickelodeon entertainment centre.

Though supermalls appeal to a broad range of shoppers, landlords must emphasise their advantages and incentivise consumers to visit more frequently as more than two thirds of shoppers visit just once every three months or less. Supermalls must reward loyal shoppers to drive visits but they must also focus on customer acquisition - particularly among DE shoppers who under-index in terms of supermalls penetration. Though landlords are paying close attention to the leisure offer in supermalls, they must ensure they continue to review the retailer mix as the retailers in supermalls are the main footfall driver.

It provides in-depth analysis of the following -
- The hot issues impacting the market (including the growing importance of the leisure offer, retailers creating more destination stores, the possibility of longstanding anchor retailers being usurped by fashion players, supermalls’ need to promote the seamless shopper journey)
- Strategies for success
- Market and sector sizes and forecasts
- Profiles of the top three most visited supermalls
- Drive time to the top 10 supermalls
- Retailer market shares
- Consumer data
- Future outlook.

Scope
- Though sectors such as jewellery are performing well in supermalls, clothing & footwear is the dominant sector, with spend on this sector forecast to grow 7.3% to 2022, accounting for 57.4% of all supermalls’ retail sales by 2022.
- Despite this, anchor retailers are increasingly relying on beauty halls to drive footfall and beauty brands are investing in their own stores in these locations. Therefore, health & beauty - the second largest sector in supermalls - is forecast to be the fastest growing sector in the market, growing 14.5% to 2022.
- Though supermalls attract a broad spectrum of shoppers due to the wide range of retailer and products available and the leisure options, 22.6% of supermall visitors are aged 16-24 - the highest of any age group. This is unsurprising considering fashion retailers such as Zara, H&M and Primark are heavily investing in creating flagship and destination stores in these locations and are providing an enjoyable shopping experience alongside an attractive product offer. These retailers stand to gain the most share in supermalls as these value fashion players continue to grow their presence and appeal to a wider range of consumers.

Dec 14, 2017

LOS ANGELES — PBS said Wednesday it has indefinitely suspended distribution of Tavis Smiley's talk show after an independent investigation uncovered "multiple, credible allegations" of misconduct by its host. PBS said it had engaged an outside law firm to investigate "troubling allegations" against the host, it said in a statement. "This investigation included interviews with witnesses as well as with Mr. Smiley," the statement said. "The inquiry uncovered multiple, credible allegations of conduct that is inconsistent with the values and standards of PBS, and the totality of this information led to today's decision." Hayek says rebuffing Weinstein led to nightmare on 'Frida'

Dec 14, 2017

NEW YORK — In one of the most vivid accounts yet of Harvey Weinstein's alleged abuse and harassment, Salma Hayek says the disgraced movie mogul turned the making of her 2002 passion project, the Frida Kahlo biopic "Frida," into a nightmare after the actress refused Weinstein's relentless advances. "For years, he was my monster," Hayek wrote in an op-ed published Wednesday by The New York Times. Her refusals — of massages, showers and sex — enraged him, she wrote. "I don't think he hated anything more than the word 'no,'" wrote Hayek. Hayek, who regularly starred in films released by...

Firefighters wary despite gains against California fire

Dec 14, 2017

LOS ANGELES — Southern California firefighters contained part of the fifth-largest fire in the state's history but warned coastal communities Wednesday that they're still at risk if unpredictable winds whip up again and fan the flames. The National Weather Service extended warnings through Friday of extreme fire danger conditions throughout much of Southern California due to lack of moisture along with a possible increase in wind gust speeds at the end of the week. Firefighters made some progress Wednesday on corralling the so-called Thomas Fire, which has spread into national forest land northwest of Los Angeles. However, they warned that...

Former 'Apprentice' contestant Omarosa leaving White House

Dec 14, 2017

WASHINGTON — True to form, former "Apprentice" star Omarosa is ending her time at the White House with a dose of drama. Omarosa Manigault Newman, one of President Donald Trump's most prominent African-American supporters, was escorted off the White House grounds after resigning her post as a presidential adviser, according to two White House officials who spoke on condition of anonymity. White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Wednesday that Manigault Newman's resignation is effective Jan. 20, one year after Trump's inauguration. "We wish her the best in future endeavors and are grateful for her service," Sanders said. The...

Fox News host Jeanine Pirro sued for defamation

Dec 14, 2017

NEW YORK — A civil rights activist is suing Fox News host Jeanine Pirro, claiming she defamed him while discussing a lawsuit against the Black Lives Matter movement that was later dismissed. The lawsuit states that DeRay McKesson was falsely arrested in 2016 while attending a protest in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in which a police officer was struck in the face with a rock and seriously injured. The officer sued the Black Lives Matter movement and McKesson for his injuries. After the officer's lawsuit was dismissed, Pirro "made a series of outrageously false and defamatory statements about Mr. McKesson, including...
