Villa Montessori In Columbus Announces July Teacher Of The Month Award

July 11, 2019 - /PressAdvantage/ - Villa Montessori Preschool Columbus, based in Columbus, Ohio, has announced that the July Teacher of the Month Award goes to Katie Rush. The award recognizes her dedication and hard work. More about this can be found at http://bit.ly/2LcPENp. Villa Montessori Preschool is a unique preschool in Columbus, offering programs for infants to six year olds.

Tamye Crutchfield, School Director at Villa Montessori Preschool Columbus, says, “We’re very happy to announced that Katie Rush is our July Teacher of the Month. We would like to thank her for her dedication and hard work. The award symbolizes our appreciation for all the good things Katie has done for the children and their families.”

Villa Montessori Preschool Columbus offers a preschool program based on the Montessori Method that was developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, who had started her work with pediatric psychiatric patients in Rome. By observing children carefully, Dr. Montessori was able to realize that it is natural for children to want to learn and explore their environments. She then developed educational materials that were scientifically designed to be project oriented and hands-on, and these are still being used in Montessori schools today.

In the Montessori classroom, the teachers act as guides who introduce materials to the children and the latter are free to choose what they want to explore and discover. While lessons are provided, the goal is for the children to discover the answers through the use of auto-didactic and self-correcting materials that can be found only in Montessori classrooms. Those interested may also want to visit their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/villamontessoripolaris/.

Within the Montessori environment, the children are able to progress academically. The children have been observed to discover their ability to solve complex mathematics problems, identify geometric shapes, discuss scientific concepts, and name the continents. But the most important part of the preschool’s educational mission is not about academics. Instead, it is their goal to foster and enhance the children’s natural sense of joy and wonder as they discover for themselves the answers to their questions. It was Dr. Montessori’s belief that education should not be a boring and tedious task but rather a joyous exploration of the various mysteries of life.

The kindergarten curriculum at Villa Montessori Preschool is also based on the Montessori Method and includes units that combine mathematics, language, science, art, history, geography, and cultural studies. A low student to teacher ratio is maintained to ensure highly personalized teaching. Their kindergarten program is for children who turn five not later than September 30.

The Kindergarten is the third year of the children’s Montessori journey. But that time, they have already completed two full years and the Montessori environment is now familiar to them. This is when the phenomenon that Dr. Montessori called “explosion into learning” will occur. During Kindergarten, the students gain mastery and control of their skills and the concepts they have practiced during their two previous primary years. At this time, all of the work that the children have done, such as learning the sounds and symbols of the letters, building words with moveable alphabet, solidify into a foundation for reading. The children have now developed reading comprehension, a strong foundation in grammar, and it is time to perfect their handwriting, creating and writing stories, and more.

In mathematics, the Kindergarten students start to master their problem solving skills. Furthermore, the kindergarteners now serve as the “leaders” in the classroom, where they share their knowledge and experiences to the younger students. This helps them develop self-esteem, empathy, and self-confidence.

Jul 19, 2019

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Cruise passengers drifted through the streets of Old San Juan Thursday as shop owners took plywood down from store windows and painted over graffiti demanding Gov. Ricardo Rosselló resign. On a colonial plaza behind the governor's mansion, a small group of men and women laid out the shoes of people who died in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, each decorated with a blue flower. The shoes were first laid out on the steps of the U.S. territory's capitol last year as a protest against government refusal to acknowledge the premature deaths of thousands of people...

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — Jerry Seinfeld says he'd rather ride classic cars and sip coffee with comedy's best than reboot his uber-successful "Seinfeld" television series. Seinfeld said in an interview Wednesday night that bringing back his eponymous sitcom that recently celebrated its 30-year anniversary would be "egomaniacal." The comedian says he is focused on learning more about the "sharpest minds in comedy" through his Netflix series "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee." The 11th season premieres Friday on the streaming service featuring Eddie Murphy. The season also includes other comedians including Jamie Foxx, Martin Short, Rick Gervais, Bridget Everett and more....

Hollywood celebrities open wallets to Buttigieg's campaign

WASHINGTON — A-list celebrities seem to be opening their hearts — or at least their wallets — to Pete Buttigieg. The South Bend, Indiana, mayor was a virtual unknown months ago. But he used breakout town hall performances, viral moments and his biography as a millennial, gay military veteran and a former Rhodes scholar to get the attention of the entertainment industry and rake in cash. Among the more than 50 celebrities who gave Buttigieg money during the second quarter are rocker Joan Jett ($150), recording industry mogul David Geffen ($5,600), fashion icon Anna Wintour ($2,800), designer Tom Ford ($5,600),...
