The Fremont Public Library in the Chicago suburb of Mundelein has launched a program in which library patrons can take home seeds for their gardens without charge. 4Patriots officials commend the library for this program.

There are now more than 500 seed libraries in the United States, according to the Seed Savers Exchange, as reported by the Daily Herald.
One of the newest is the Fremont Public Library in Mundelein, Ill., where beginning on April 1 patrons will be allowed to take a variety of seeds for no charge and plant them in their gardens. The only stipulation in this honor system program is that they return some seeds that ripen at the end of the growing season for other gardeners to use next season.
