Columbia Allergy Now Offering Traditional Chinese Medicine for Allergy Relief
Jan 21, 2021
FREMONT, Calif. - January 21, 2021 - (Newswire.com)
Columbia Allergy, home of the nation's leading network of renowned allergists and immunologists specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of children and adults with environmental and food allergies, will now add Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to its extensive menu of services to benefit allergy sufferers. Dr. Yan Yan, board-certified allergist and pediatrician, has joined the clinic's Fremont, California, location, where she will provide Traditional Chinese Medicine as an alternative and/or adjunct treatment for asthma, eczema, and food allergies.
"Traditional Chinese Medicine is a huge asset to individuals struggling with allergies," says Dr. Yan. "It can be used on its own or in conjunction with your current allergy treatments and medications. I specialize in creating individualized and comprehensive treatment plans for each patient to ensure the best possible results."
At Columbia Allergy, Dr. Yan leverages researched methods pioneered by the renowned Dr. Xiu-Min Li to apply herbal treatments to the management of allergies alongside the latest science and technology. Using this practice, Dr. Yan has seen particular success while treating:
- Eczema. Through TCM, Dr. Yan is able to manage patients' eczema symptoms and reduce their need for topical steroids. Eczema patients who benefit most are newly diagnosed infants and steroid-dependent young children, older children with asthma, food, or environmental allergies, and newborns. Offering a treatment plan consisting of internal and external regimens, she is able to help reduce inflammation and promote skin integrity and regeneration.
- Food allergies. Dr. Yan uses TCM as an adjunct therapy with oral immunotherapy (OIT) or sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) for food allergies to help reduce the risk of anaphylaxis and mitigate common food allergy symptoms such as hives, stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea. Dr. Yan has found that TCM can improve the outcome of patients undergoing OIT and SLIT for food allergies.
- Asthma. TCM can be used as an adjunct or alternative asthma therapy designed to decrease the frequency of respiratory virus infections, asthma exacerbations, and the need for inhaled and oral steroid use. Administering antiasthma simplified herbal medicine intervention (ASHMI), a capsule that works by reducing inflammation in the respiratory tract, Dr. Yan may help a patient to decrease or taper off steroid use, improve lung function tests, reduce the use of a short-acting inhaler, and allow a patient to resume normal activity.
"We are thrilled to offer our Fremont patients Traditional Chinese Medicine remedies," says Sanjeev Jain, MD, PhD, founder of Columbia Allergy. "Working together with Dr. Yan, our team of allergists are able to build truly comprehensive treatment plans that deliver the best possible allergy relief for our patients."
Dr. Yan's TCM remedies can be ordered for patients through Columbia Allergy and will be available for pickup in approximately one week from the time the order was placed. For more information and/or to schedule an in-person or video consultation, visit www.columbiaallergy.com.
