Sep 29, 2026
Founded in 2000 by Mark Dodds and Gary Alsop, the Birmingham IT company continues to support West Midlands businesses with cybersecurity and day-to-day technology needs.
Birmingham, United Kingdom, September 29, 2026 -- Compex IT is marking more than 25 years in business, having been founded in 2000 by Mark Dodds and Gary Alsop. Headquartered in Birmingham, the company continues to operate as an outsourced IT department for small and medium-sized enterprises across the West Midlands, delivering day-to-day support alongside longer-term technology planning.
Gary Alsop began his career in programming, developing a preference for technical computer work alongside a wish to help people directly. When a precision engineering business approached him for support, he contacted Mark Dodds, and the pair founded Compex IT in 2000 with customer service as their central focus. Further background on the founders and the company's early development is set out on the Who We Are page.
Compex IT provides IT support plans for businesses with between five and 100 users, covering IT troubleshooting, multi-layered cybersecurity, Microsoft 365 management, and communications support for office and remote working. The company also carries out proactive maintenance and monitoring, documentation and asset management, and regular technology reviews for its clients. Further detail on this approach is available on the IT Support Birmingham page.
"When Gary and I started Compex IT in 2000, our focus was on providing genuine, dependable customer service to local business owners," said Mark Dodds, Director of Compex IT. "Reaching more than 25 years is a testament to the trust these Birmingham businesses have placed in us, and we're grateful for it."
Support is available by phone, remotely and on site, with service plans combining security protection and different levels of assistance.
