Dmitry Druzhinsky Looks Beyond the Next Tournament in MatchPoint NYC's Tennis Development Strategy
Oct 8, 2026
New York City, New York Oct 8, 2026 (Issuewire.com) - After a US Open that again demonstrated the demands of championship-level tennis, MatchPoint NYC co-founder Dmitry Druzhinsky continues to focus the center's tennis strategy on a longer question: what does it take to develop young talent into athletes capable of competing on major stages?
Elena Rybakina's victory in New York provides a current reference point. The 27-year-old defeated Aryna Sabalenka in the US Open final to secure her third Grand Slam title and become the new world No. 1 after a career built through successive stages of professional competition.
For MatchPoint NYC, the relevance of such achievements lies in the development process behind them.
Long-term athlete development is based on the idea that an athlete's potential cannot be judged by a single tournament or season. Young players progress at different rates, and preparing them for higher-level tennis requires technical development, conditioning, competitive experience and a training environment capable of supporting that progression.
That is why Dmitry Druzhinsky connects athlete development with continued investment in training infrastructure.
The purpose of a stronger training base is not simply to add capacity. It is to give players developing within the MatchPoint NYC system the resources and continuity required to move from one stage of preparation to another.
This also changes how investment in sports infrastructure can be measured. The immediate result is better access to training resources. The longer-term result can only be evaluated through the athletes themselves: their progression, competitive opportunities, rankings and eventual achievements.
The approach is becoming particularly relevant as attention turns toward the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. With less than two years remaining, the current period provides a significant test for athlete-development programs and training systems.
LA28 is one milestone, rather than the sole purpose of MatchPoint NYC's strategy. For Dmitry Druzhinsky, the broader goal is to build a sustainable pipeline that develops athletes beyond any individual Olympic cycle.
The coming years can therefore serve as both preparation and evaluation. As MatchPoint NYC continues investing in its tennis training infrastructure and developing its own talent, on-court progress will provide the clearest evidence of whether the strategy is working.
For Druzhinsky, that is the long-term equation: develop athletes today, give them the training base to grow, and create the conditions in which future performances, championships, and potentially Olympic achievements can follow.
