The woman and minority-owned and run manufacturing company ELoMed™ has created the bio face mask: the first sustainably packaged, medical-grade face mask made of biodegradable materials. Corn, cassava, sugar cane, and sugar beet are some of the materials that create a biodegradable and hypoallergenic fabric for a comfortable and highly effective face mask that protects individuals and the environment.
The mission behind creating the bio face mask was in filling the industry gap between reusable fabric face masks and traditional disposable face masks which are made out of polypropylene. Both the BFE and breathability of their sustainable masks markedly pass ASTM Level 2 requirements - making the bio face mask suitable for the healthcare industry as well.
Toxic chemicals such as formaldehyde, carcinogens, and artificial dyes, which have been commonly detected in traditional face masks, ironically pose rising health concerns for face mask wearers. ELoMed face masks are manufactured using lab tested, toxic free materials. In the case of the bio face mask, using bio-based materials also lent itself to the masks' hypoallergenic and skin-friendly quality.
