How We Continuously Eliminate Waste in PCBA Manufacturing
Sep 22, 2026
Shenzhen, Guangdong Sep 21, 2026 (Issuewire.com) - In Pcba Manufacturing, waste takes many forms--waiting between processes, unnecessary material movement, excess inventory, rework, and underutilized talent. As a provider of HighQuality Electronics Contract Manufacturing Services, we have embraced lean manufacturing principles throughout our 19 years of operation. This continuous improvement culture delivers faster delivery, lower costs, and higher quality for our clients. It is the engine behind our China Ems Pcb Company and our OEM Electronic Manufacturing Services.
Identifying the Seven Wastes
We train all employees to recognize the classic seven manufacturing wastes: overproduction (building before customer need), waiting (idle operators or equipment), transportation (excessive material movement), overprocessing (doing more than required), inventory (excess work-in-process), motion (unnecessary operator movement), and defects (rework and scrap). Each is systematically addressed through kaizen events and daily improvement suggestions.
Value Stream Mapping
For each major product family, we create value stream maps that trace materials and information from customer order to delivery. These maps reveal non-value-added steps that can be reduced or eliminated. Typical improvements have included moving SMT feeder setup offline to reduce line changeover time, reorganizing component kitting to minimize operator walking, and implementing pull systems between SMT, DIP, and test to reduce work-in-process.
Setup Time Reduction (SMED)
Single-Minute Exchange of Die (SMED) methodology has dramatically reduced our SMT line changeover times. What once took 60 minutes now averages under 15 minutes for complex changeovers. Key improvements include standardized fixture mounting, offline feeder preparation, visual setup guides, and parallel operations where internal tasks are converted to external (done while the line is still running).
5S Workplace Organization
The foundation of lean is an organized, disciplined workplace. Our 5S program includes sort (remove unneeded items), set in order (designated locations for everything), shine (clean and inspect), standardize (replicable practices across shifts), and sustain (audit and maintain). Regular 5S audits score each work area, with results linked to team performance metrics.
Visual Management
We use visual controls to make abnormal conditions immediately obvious. Andon lights show line status at a glance. Color-coded floor markings define material and pedestrian zones. Production status boards display actual vs. planned output. Quality dashboards show real-time yield and defect trends. Anyone can see whether we are on track or need attention.
Lean is not a project--it is our daily operating system. By relentlessly eliminating waste, we deliver greater value to you: faster lead times, competitive pricing, and quality built into every process.
