When asked to comment, Ho said, “What's even harder than establishing a successful small business is expanding that enterprise. But there are some important things to keep in mind in helping overcome the odds of growing your business."
Keeping it simple, according to Ho, could be the difference between a failing business and a flourishing one.
“The everyday operations of a business often become more and more complicated as the company grows, and these complex processes are often passed down to the customer,” Ho said.
When asked for an example, she commented, “For instance, customers don’t want to jump through hoops in a complex ordering system to purchase your business’ product or service. Keeping those processes simple through using the latest automation tools could not only help cut costs but also keep your business attractive to existing and potential consumers.”
Ho also said that small business owners should learn how to use hard data about the company to their advantage.
"Figures that show the number of leads and converted leads, as well as the value of a long-term customer and initial sales value tell the story of your company. You can then use this story to capture new players in the marketplace and to remain appealing to the current customer base.”
Ho was quick to point out is that keeping an eye on the prize is crucial to propelling a small business forward.
When asked to elaborate, Ho said, “One of the biggest mistakes made by small business owners is deviating from the original plan for business expansion and profit maximization. While some business opportunities are worth taking, saying yes to each one is likely to make you lose focus.”
"That's why it's crucial to make a plan and stick to it. Keeping that end goal in sight will help in making difficult investment decisions and in understanding when to say 'no.'"
Ho added that one way small business owners can stay focused is through hiring the relevant professional to help expansion needs.
“Reaching out to legal and financial experts such as an interim CFO is a vital part in widening profit margins, particularly when exploring unknown territory to retain new customer interest," she said.
