McCallum Adobe Historic Building in Palm Springs Opens to Visitors - What to Expect

Palm Springs, California -

October 04, 2022 - /PressAdvantage/ - Palm Springs Area Real Estate, based in California, is pleased to share that the historic McCullum Adobe is now open to the public. The company of top real estate agents in Palm Springs make it a point to track the status of all properties in the area in order to provide their clients with the best access to local real estate opportunities.

In Palm Springs, California, close to the present-day intersection of Tahquitz Canyon Way and Palm Canyon Drive, the McCallum Adobe was built in 1884. When his oldest kid started having serious respiratory problems, John Guthrie McCallum moved his family from Los Angeles to the Coachella Valley in search of the healing, arid heat of the desert. McCallum employed local Cahuilla Indians to construct his family's home with the aid of a Native American interpreter and guide. The McCallum Adobe is the oldest structure that is still standing in Palm Springs. Learn more here: Palm Springs CA Real Estate.

The McCallum Adobe is cared for by the Palm Springs Historical Society, which also runs the nearby Cornelia White House, built in 1893 as a museum. The McCallum family was the first non-Native family to reside on the west end of the valley. The permanent collection, which includes images, books and ephemera detailing the pioneers who formed the city people know and love today, is balanced by seasonal displays about local history. The Adobe was moved to its current location in the 1950s from where it had previously stood, which was close to the present-day intersection of Palm Canyon Drive and Tahquitz Canyon Way and a short stroll from the Agua Caliente Hot Mineral Spring. The Cahuilla Indians used a mixture of mud, fiber and ancient water from the hot spring, which was known for its therapeutic properties, to create the sun-baked bricks that made up the building. The Cornelia White House and the McCallum Adobe are both free to visit. The buildings can be seen at the Village Green Heritage Center in the heart of Palm Springs. The museums reopen this month (after being closed during the summer).
