Mystic Owl Tattoo Releases Research On America’s Views of Tattoos In the Workplace

The entertainment industry has created a trend for visible tattoos, but working-class America may not be as quick to follow the trend. The research for the informative article on the Mystic Owl website was undertaken by reaching out on social media, as well as to local area businesses to ask if a tattoo policy was formalized for the businesses, and if one was present, how rigid it was.
The research covered a range of industries. These included law enforcement, government offices, food and beverage establishments, cosmetology, retail stores, teachers, and corporate entities. Though the sample of respondents was relatively small, there was a range of policies from no written policy, to no visible ink to location-specific bans, such as no face, neck or hand ink. Some management ignores tattoos; other entities require the tattoo to be covered at all times.
According to the author of the research piece, “My conclusion was that working class America has progressed to be somewhat tattoo friendly, but I definitely would stick to the phrase 'think before you ink'. Some policies are lenient and allow tattoos, but the majority aren’t keen on hands or face tattoos.” She cautions, “Even though your favorite celebrity is sporting a new tattoo on their finger or face, I would think twice before following their lead.”
