He then completed an ACGME accredited fellowship in pain management at the University of Washington in Seattle, where he served as Chief Fellow and was awarded the esteemed "Pain Fellow of the Year" by the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine. During his fellowship, he worked closely with internationally recognized experts in headache pain, spine, and pelvic pain. 

The doctor is board-certified in pain medicine & physical medicine and rehabilitation by the American Osteopathic Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AOBPMR). The AOBPMR is an organization that provides board certification to qualified Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine who specialize in the treatment of patients with physical impairments or disabilities.

An accomplished author, Dr. Balch III has published several papers in scientific journals, including "Ultrasound-Guided Intrathecal Baclofen Trials: A Case Series", and Extended-Release Morphine Sulfate in Treatment of Severe Acute and Chronic Pain. 

A member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, he is affiliated with Baylor Scott and White All Saints Medical Center-Fort Worth and Medical City Fort Worth Hospital.
