Haikuists have created this new service out of a self-professed love for poetry, and a desire to spread that appreciation to others. They say that party favors are typically soulless and not memorable, but that poetry can capture the spirit of the event and of the moment it was written to give people a real memory to cherish.
The service, which started out as a simple exercise in poetry writing, can now be enlisted for weddings, which they say are ideal for poetry given the emotionally-charged nature of the event. They have also written haikus for yoga retreats, private parties, street festivals and more, and are open for any size of gathering.
Every guest at the event will be given the opportunity to provide a topic for a poem.
In the words of a spokesperson for the company, “The ultimate personalized keepsake for your party is Free Haiku. Guests can tell us anything and everything. There are no rules or restrictions on the topics they provide to our poets. Each haiku is one of a kind and takes only 30-90 seconds to whip up.”
The Haikuists team is composed of 30 experienced poets across 10 cities, performing at over 250 locations in the short time since their launch. Their team currently spans coast to coast, with poets in Las Vegas, Portland, Washington DC, Boston, Chicago, among other places, and with more to come soon.
