An expert talks about why more and more consumers are switching to local business directories to find the information they need.

The popularity of local business directories are on the rise, and one expert thinks he understands why. “It’s frustrating for consumers to use the large search engines to look for results in their local area,” says a spokesman from FindUsLocal.com, a local business directory that uses GEO technology to match visitor’s locations with the results they see. “And that’s why more and more people are turning to local search directories to find local businesses.”
Internet marketers have been trying to figure out how to solve the visibility problem for years when it comes to local businesses.
When consumers search a major search engine, the results they see are often those that paid to be in the top position. “That leaves out a lot of relevant, local results, and that’s what’s leading to the frustration so many consumers feel.”
The answer, he says, are local business directories. These directories act like local search engines and highlight only the results from a visitor’s area. “Some of these directories are pretty sophisticated,” he says. “For example, our local directory uses GEO technology. That means no matter where a visitor logs on from, they’ll only see the results from their area. It prevents people from having to click on multiple screens just to find the local shops, restaurants, and events that are happening in their area.”
Most experts agree that in today’s internet savvy era, local business owners should ensure that their shop is listed on a local directory in order to attract customers who look online for businesses to shop at.
