UK Hip Replacement Surgery & Arthrosamid Injection | Sports Injury Clinic Update
Jul 5, 2022
Silk Willoughby,United Kingdom - July 5, 2022 /PressCable/ —
The clinic now uses the Sparing Piriformis And Internus, Repair Externus (S.P.A.I.R.E) technique for hip replacements. This method aims to preserve muscles located at the back of hips, facilitating earlier mobilisation for patients. In addition, non-surgical treatments, such as intra-articular steroid injections, are also offered.

Hip degeneration, due to osteoarthritis, is a relatively common complaint among the elderly. However, hip injuries also account for many injuries among sports people. MSK Doctors has recognised that many clients are concerned about the long recovery period associated with hip replacements. The clinic’s latest methods are designed to remove such inconvenience.
According to the Orthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine, hip and groin injuries account for up to 6% of all injuries among athletes. While not all of these injuries will require surgery, repeated damage, particularly in high-impact sports, will increase the likelihood that a replacement is required.
Traditionally, recovery from hip replacement surgery can take up to 6 weeks, and patients have been required to use crutches during the healing process. The recently announced S.P.A.I.R.E method at MSK Doctors avoids cutting several muscle and tendon complexes, which the clinic states will reduce the risk of post-operative dislocation.
Indeed, the clinic indicates that the new approach can preserve a full range of movement in the hip joint, removing the need for any post-operative restrictions. Given the early mobilisation this affords, it is expected that this form of surgery will be particularly popular among sports people.
About MSK Doctors
With surgeries in Lincolnshire and London, MSK Doctors offers modern facilities and some of the latest equipment in the industry. In addition to hip replacements, regeneration and Arthrosamid injections, the clinic provides in-house open MRI scans, cartilage regeneration, knee replacements, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, and more.
One patient recently stated: “Professor Lee replaced my hip at a hospital local to me and it’s been wonderful to be pain-free and walking without a limp. I’ve been extremely lucky as I’ve since met others whose doctors will only manage their pain, saying they’re too young for a hip replacement. According to Professor Lee, I’m young at 53 but he said my quality of life was important and I’m immensely grateful for that. Thank you.”
