Choosing a temperature sensor for one’s application can be an overwhelming task. The current range of sensors in the market is broader than ever, and it is easy to feel lost if one is not familiar with calibrations.
The suitability of each sensor type depends on your application. Although Platinum Resistance Thermometers are suitable for applications in the temperature range of -200°C to 600°C, they are more commonly used in the range -50°C to +250°C. An RTD sensor measures temperature based on the resistance changes in a metal resistor inside.
The most popular RTDs, called PT100 or PT1000 sensors, use platinum and have a resistance of 100 ohms at 0°C. These temperature sensors are reliable and can offer a higher degree of accuracy.
